Ms. Razia Sultan Ismail Abbasi is an Indian activist and communication professional with advocacy experience in the UN and in international and Asian volunteer movements for inter-cultural learning and development with justice. One of the founders of the TransAsia Alliance for Child Rights, she represents South Asia on the NGO Executive Committee of the UN Division of Public Information NGO Executive Committee, is the International Convenor and Trustee, Women’s Coalition Trust for Peace & Development with Dignity, and South Asia Coordinator for the NGO Committee on UNICEF. She is the Co-Convenor of the India Alliance for Child Rights and the First Coordinator of the South Asia NGO Alliance since 2001. From 1976 to 1999, she served in UNICEF -- as Chief of Information and Communication Services for UNICEF’s South and Central Asia Region from 1978, and Chief of Advocacy and External Relations for India from 1989. An elected Executive Committee member of the World YWCA from 1983 to 1999, she is the only Asian to have served as President of the World YWCA ( from 1991 to 1995).

In a professional career focused on advocacy and development, she has published many articles and papers on development with justice, peace, child rights, respect for diversity, gender justice in childhood, sustainable development, and the role and responsibility of the voluntary sector in policy formulation. She has co-authored the First India Social Development Report, two independent alternate country reports on child rights and women’s advancement, and the book A Place to Live. Carrying responsibility to develop the GNRC in the difficult-to-reach Central Asian and Caucasus countries, Ms. Ismail Abbasi also offers volunteer time to GNRC activities in India.
